“Why is it so hard to be creative,” someone asked in Quora. “What inspires you to write,” a friend on Facebook group posed a question. Then, “Why is it so hard to make money from creative pursuits?” These are the questions I got from researching about creativity through the internet. I found that not only we question how to become creative, we also wonder how to stay creative, and more importantly, how to earn more money from our creative pursuits.
It is possible to have a creative online business. I saw a graphic designer (Elle & Company) and a copy writer (Ashlyn Writes) built websites offering their services and consultations. There was my favorite personal finance guru offering free advices on his blog and more advanced courses on his website (I Will Teach You to Be Rich). Even my Indonesian best friend had the guts to promote a wedding scrapbook (Pop It) and a fellow language learner marketed epoxy home decorations (Deco Loco) on Instagram.
What do these creative entrepreneurs have in common? They all are eager to create, to produce something unique to the market. I see some of them had extra help through partnerships (both in Podcast collaboration, blog guest posting, and business partnership). Next, they combined what they love to do, with what they’re capable to do, and what the market needs. These are three things I want you to keep in mind for now:
Be adventurous, fearless, and imaginative in creating something with a unique value to your customer. Don’t be afraid with mistakes but instead, throw a bunch of ideas on the table. In truth, there is no limit on creative business ideas.
Collaborate with other people to refine and promote your product. I strongly believe that two minds are better than one. On top of that, you might need encouragement now and then to keep you going.
Always be aware if there’s a demand for what you offer. After going through the list of ideas you have and connect with your friends about the ideas, you should select only the ones you see with viable market.
These are simplified answers to earn money from creative pursuit. But of course, you need strategy and more thorough discussion to grow as a creative and thrive in the long run. Let me help you discover what you love and start earning money. Visit my blog for more or join my email list!
