Recently, I joined the Medium publications to post some of my writings. Here, I would like to persuade you to try out writing on Medium with the Whys and the Hows.

The Whys

Medium is an online publishing platform established in August 2012 and it is regularly referred as the a blog host according to Wikipedia.
  • ONE. Medium has flexibility in drafting a post and adding multimedia to compliment it.

  • TWO. Medium reaches extensive audience who can clap for you. Depending on how you see it, claps can mean appreciation, engagement level, or others. Jason Li on his Medium article predicted that People like to give 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, and 50 Claps. This means that you can easily get up to 100+ claps from each post.
  • THREE. Medium offers a partner program that pays writer based on the monthly read and applause from subscribed members.
  • FOUR. It is almost effortless to publish at Medium. You only need your creativity and some tactics I will explain later on to grab attention.
  • FIVE. Most Medium publications show the latest articles, along with the featured ones. This means you don't have to reach certain numbers of audience to be on the front page!

The Hows

You can easily become a Medium writer with new followers using these few steps.
  • ONE. Do your homework. Search for publications you like and strategize which article goes to which publication. I recommend Lit Up, The Writing Cooperative, The Junction, and P.S. I Love You. There are more out there, so do research on Medium Publications!

  • TWO. Don't forget to read their submission instructions. Most of the time, new writers need to submit a draft (non-published or not-yet-posted article) to the publication.
  • THREE. Create a Medium account and start drafting your stories.
  • FOUR. Use striking photos as your cover picture and don't forget to mention the source. In this visual age, readers are drawn to the aesthetics.
