F.A.Q.
Can you help me publish my book?
There are several ways to be published: self-published, indie publishing, hybrid publishing, or traditional publishing. They all have Pros and Cons, and they suit individuals differently.I myself have self-published books and marketing is one of the many challenges I dealt with. The key is to know your audience, whom you want to speak to, but also to know yourself and what is success to you.Currently, my preference is to work with sci-fi & fantasy writers who are planning to self-published. I have some resources to help you.
What is your background?
Educational-wise, I have a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering and two Master's degree in business, both focus in marketing. Independently, I took some online writing courses from Wesleyan University, University of British Columbia, Curtis Brown Collective, and Brigham Young University.I have a gift in seeing from multiple perspectives, thanks to my life experiences. My father taught me to think out of the box, while my mother taught me to think practically. Studying abroad across the US, Australia, and Canada allow me to adapt quickly, to respect different views, and to help others. Finally, my interest in foreign languages gave me the sneak peek of different cultures around the world. My strength is in worldbuilding, symbolism, and shaping cultures.
Have you sold a book?
Yes. I self-published a couple of books. I knew what I wanted. I decided to write in English, to limit to 30,000 words, and to self-publish. This length is helpful for non-native English speakers and suit me because I like novellas. Self-publishing and writing in English allow me to get them in Indonesian, Singaporean, Malaysian, Australian, and American indie bookstores.Once I'm settled in Canada, I used print-on-demand to self-publish books. There are drawbacks, but this suit me better because I don't need to store hundreds of books in my home instead.
I write a different genre. Can you help me?
I do not work with erotica and horror genres.I can work with sci-fi & fantasy stories blended with other genres like romance, mystery, and so on. My preference is a conflict-centered story with soft magic / tech system and character arcs.
Will you help me sell my books?
Today, marketing has a lot to do with analytics and performance. With GenerativeAI (ChatGPT, Midjourney, and so on), it's easier to produce contents to publish. At the same time, we start to see social medias and search engines working on vetting out "click-bait" results.I believe money is just one component to success. My philosophy is that marketing is knowing your audience, knowing who you are talking to. Your story has a message and you need to know what you are saying. This way, you know your fans well. This way, you know where to find them. This way, you know how to engage with them.I do not help in marketing your book, but I can help you find the right resources to reach your audience.
